Raising three kids in beautiful Santa Barbara has been an incredible experience. It’s truly one of the most kid-friendly destinations you can visit!

With its virtually perfect year-round weather and endless activities for both little ones and older kids, Santa Barbara offers a mix of outdoor adventures, museums, parks, and more.

As a mom of three, I’m excited to share our family’s favorite things to do in Santa Barbara with kids. The best part? Many of these activities are completely free! So, let’s dive into the top things to do in Santa Barbara with kids—from popular attractions to hidden gems, all from the perspective of a local mom who knows the best spots.

A trip to Santa Barbara is not complete without a fun day spent at the beach. Relax on the soft sands while your kids dig, splash, and play in the waves. The beach here offers endless fun for kids, teens and relaxation for adults.

Grab a towel and some sunscreen and head to any of the beautiful beaches that stretch the entire length of Santa Barbara. West beach, East beach and Butterfly beach are just a few of the top places to settle in and enjoy your day in the sun.

2. Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden & Kids World Park

This beloved local gem of a park combines two unique experiences in one spot. The park covers two full blocks and is set amongst one of Santa Barbaras most charming neighborhoods. As a family we have logged thousands of hours here! These parks are just a few blocks off State Street, making them easily accessible from downtown Santa Barbara.

  • Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden: Wander through lush pathways surrounded by beautiful trees, vibrant flowers, and ponds filled with turtles. Kids will be mesmerized for hours!
  • Kids World Park: Located just across the street, this massive wooden playground is a dream for children ages 2-12. It features giant whale sculptures, swings, and hundreds of community-made tiles, offering endless opportunities for imaginative play.

Local Pro Tips:

  • Pack a picnic or some snacks to enjoy in the grassy areas.
  • If you see the local “corn guy,” don’t miss the chance to try his mouthwatering corn on the cob! He stops by the park several times a day with his cart.
  • Walk over to Secret Bao, a local Asian restaurant located just a few blocks from the park for a fantastic lunch or dinner following your time at the park.

3. Little Toot Water Taxi

  • Once you arrive at Stearns Wharf , there is plenty to explore. Plan to spend extra time wandering the Wharf.
  • Stop in the Sea Center, a small aquarium perfect for curious little ones that have touch tanks with sea creatures from the Santa Barbara Channel.
  • Stop for lunch at one of the many Family-friendly dining at restaurants like the Shellfish Company, Longboards, or Moby Dicks

  • Bring a camera to capture the stunning mountain views from the pier. Its one of my favorite views in all of Santa Barbara. The Wharf is also a fantastic place for kids to watch fishing boats, spot sea lions, and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze.

Kids will love the excitement of casting a line into the water, and with a little patience, they’re almost guaranteed to catch something! It’s a relaxing way to enjoy the ocean views while making unforgettable memories.

My son used to sit for hours at the end of the pier on a clear day trying to catch fish. Highly recommend!
